They Say The Grass is Always Greener…

My heart used to pulse to the beat of freedom.

It sang with every thump; FREEDOM.

Thump, thump, FREEDOM.

Thump, thump, FREEDOM.

My heart used to live for colorful & vivacious adventures.

It surged with unquenchable joy, reveling in blissful freedom!

But now it sings a different tune…

now it aches unbearably for home.

Thump, thump, HOME.

Thump, thump, HOME.

Thump, thump, HOME.

Thump, thump…..Please Take Me HOME.

MOANA- Do you know who’s you are?

By now, most everyone and their kids have seen Moana, but if you haven’t, you should probably stop reading right now, as this contains a spoiler…

.

.

.

Ok, so if you’re still reading then you have seen the movie and remember the ending. You already know the most climactic part, where Moana returns the heart to Tefiti.

Well, as I was watching the ending the other day, the song really jumped out at me. It was as if Jesus himself, was singing the song to me.  Telling me the story of how He crossed time and space and traveled from death to life to find me. How He has been searching for me, to set me free and restore both my heart and soul. That He saw me when I was taken captive and saw me when my heart was crushed and my hope was stolen. He saw the enemy break my heart into a million pieces and knows how calloused and broken that made me. He saw it all, and doesn’t blame me for it! He knows my heart was stolen and that I was turned into something I never wanted to be. He holds none of it against me, He does not define me by what I’ve lost!

He does not define me by what I  became. He calls out to me saying, “don’t fall for the lie that this is who you are!  Because I see who is behind the calloused exterior, I see you for who I made you to be. I see who you truly are.”

So play the video and listen to the song as if Jesus were singing this directly to you. Then watch what happens once Tefiti surrenders and lets her heart be restored. She comes back to life; lush, beautiful and glorious. That is exactly what Jesus does inside of us.

“I have crossed the horizon to find you
I know your name
They have stolen the heart from inside you

But this does not define you
This is not who you are.

I know who you are.

Who you truly are.”

What Has Been Seen

Since I often use creative writing as therapy, I sometimes find myself playing inspiring instrumental music to help me get writing. So, I wrote this based on an image I had one day while listening to my favorite instrumental album.

-Feel free to listen to the lovely music as you read.

I am cowering in a corner, broken, wounded and petrified.

Tired from fighting, I have nothing left, all I can do is hide away.

But than I  saw me in the midst of a battle, fallen soldiers and debris all surround.

I was dressed in thick armor but it wasn’t my own,
Then I saw strength emanating from within my belly pouring, soaring out through me. Filling my armor with strength making it impenetrable.
Creating a shield of protection around me that no one can penetrate.

Now I see myself concealed within an empty dark mountain.

“The dead are coming back to life.” I hear.
I see myself on the floor, instantly I am engulfed with diamonds of light embalming me.
Until all that is seen is bright blinding light, bursting forth from my entire being.

I see a butterfly fluttering over piano keys creating a lush melody.
I see this butterfly in the cave.
I see myself now standing on this mountain, the clouds part and the night sky fills with dazzling stars.
Bright, beautiful and overwhelming in their perfection,
Both beauty and magnitude, join hands.

The mountain rises up into the sky.

I rise and I rise.

I am in space among the stars,

I am dancing and shining bright with light and life.
I am clothed in a white flowing gown.
Light blasts out from within,

I reach my hand up and light streams forth spanning the vastness of space and time.
There is nowhere my light can not reach.

There is nowhere my light can not reach.

I am a star, dancing in the heavens.

I am a star, dancing in the heavens…. I am home.

Fail spectactularly

Most people are afraid of failure and afraid of change.  We are afraid to try anything new, or step outside of our comfort zones. So we settle, we get used to things as they are. We choose the easy road, and surrender to our circumstances.  We choose not to fight, not to risk, and choose the path of less resistance.

But deep down inside, we know we desire something better. Something more.  Because somewhere deep inside us there’s a fire, that  burns with fiery passion. Our souls long to do something, or be someone, but we’re too afraid to answer the call.

Why are we afraid to try?

We’re afraid of failing, afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being laughed at, of being scolded. We’re afraid of stepping out, and changing  what we are used to. Afraid of leaving our predictable, controllable lives.  And sometimes were afraid of disappointing those close to us. So we stay where we are. We try to convince ourselves that we like what we’re doing. We lie to ourselves, so well that we don’t even know that we’re doing it. We do it so often that we don’t even recognize the sound of our hearts screaming, “Set me free! I’m dying in here!” We smother our dreams, we bury our passions and ignore our what our heart desperately longs to do.

Don’t let fear of failure crush your passion and stifle your hearts. Don’t let your soul wither away because you’re afraid to follow your dreams. It might seem like that fear of failure is protecting you, keeping you from making a fool of yourself. But if the cost is letting your soul’s deepest desire wither away, then its not worth it!!

Here’s what I’ve learned…that failure, actually isn’t something to fear. Sure, it can be scary as we go through it, but it isn’t something we should shy away from.

How can you stop fearing failure?  By  changing  your mindset.    (After all fear is really all in your head.)
Here are some examples of people who failed terribly and were able to pick themselves back up and keep going. Hopefully they inspire and encourage you to never give up!

• Oprah was fired from her first job as a TV anchor in Baltimore…. And look at her now, she’s a star, and everyone knows her name.

• Thomas Edison’s teachers said that he was “too stupid to learn anything.” But he kept learning and inventing. Then he failed 1,000 times trying to invent the light bulb! But he didn’t give up, until he got it right. He kept trying until he finally got that dang light bulb to work! Thanks Thomas! Electricity is awesome.

• Winston Churchill actually failed the sixth grade! Then he was defeated every time he ran for public office, it took him until he was 62 to actually get elected! And  then he pretty much saved the United kingdom by keeping it from falling apart during the war.  Would the UK have survived the war, if Winston had given up and stopped running for office?

• Dr Seuss had his first book rejected by 27 different publishers. 27 different companies that that what he wrote was garbage, and not profitable. Who knew?

• J.K. Rowling was a broke, divorced single mother trying to write her first novel, while studying in school. She often felt depressed and thought of herself as a failure. And now, well, now she’s insanely rich and successful.

• Van Gough only ever sold one painting in his lifetime, it wasn’t until he died that anyone took any interest in his art. Poor Van Gough… but he didn’t quit, he kept on painting.

• Walt Disney was fired because, “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” Then he started a business, but failed and had to file bankruptcy. But he kept trying, and didn’t give up on his dreams! And now we all have Walt to thank for some of our greatest childhood memories.

• Abraham Lincoln was demoted from captain to private, in the military and his businesses failed several times. He even ran for office and was defeated several times! And of course now he has a giant monument dedicated in his honor in D.C. and is the most celebrated President  America has ever had.

The point is this, everyone one  fails, but successful people are the ones who take responsibility, learn from their  mistakes and then keep going! They keep setting goals and striving to reach them no matter, how often they fall. They use there mistakes as an opportunity to try it a different way, and understand that failure is a really useful learning experience.  Successful people don’t avoid failure, they embrace it! Because they know that failure is the most powerful teacher.

If all the worlds a stage, then let yourself soar, and don’t worry about who sees you fall. (Most people are too self absorbed to really keep track of everything you do anyways.)

So fail spectacularly! Fail with style! Let people wonder how you can be so strong that you bravely keep getting back up! And sure, there may be those who who think your foolish, for refusing to stay down. But just remember that you’ll prove em wrong in the end! Because your life is a stage, meant for soaring, falling, learning, trying and succeeding. Don’t let life pass you by, knowing you were too afraid to listen to your heart and follow your dreams.

Free Write With Music

So I was listening to the first two songs on my favorite instrumental soundtrack and I wrote this. I hope it is encouraging and inspiring to someone!
Click the link to play the music, while you read.
Also if anyone is wanting to write and doesn’t know where to start, play some of your favorite instrumental music and just write whatever the music makes you feel or imagine. That is what I did. Happy writing!!

Go ahead, play the song.

FREEWRITE:

The earth is dark and empty, the wind howls a song through the forlorn sky,

She is despairing over the horrible emptiness and darkness….

But when the trees hear her sing, they come alive and join in the song.

Then the flowers blossom and sing along in a joyful harmony!

Even the clouds wake up and remember how to sing.

When they join in the chorus, their voices match the sound of a thousand angels.

Then with the gusto of trumpets, the sun bursts forth in all its glory chasing the darkness away.

2nd song:

Hopelessness and heartbreak hang in the air, there is nothing but the stench of death covering the land.

But Hope comes in subtly, gently. As if  unsure of her welcome.
She proceeds cautiously.

“Let me sing a song for you, little ones,” she whispers.

She sings a resurrection song, it’s calling those that were killed in battle to come back to life.

“Come, back. Come back. Wake up.

Come back to me, awake!”

Hope graces it wings to soar, and roars to life. “WAKE UP!” she shouts.

The greatest moment is coming, an army of life is arising.

And still she sings her heart out, as if our lives depend on it.

She will never die. Death has no place where Hope lives.

Still the sadness and sorrow of death is not chased away, it lingers on, its hold is strong.

But Hope can never be conquered, so she sings on.

On and on she marches, over the battle field, singing and dancing to her lovely,
powerful,
and awakening song.

It’s soothing, balming, refreshing, surrounding and holding everything together in its rightful place.

Hope is holding everything together.

She soothes the senses with radiance and warmth.

And it’s working!
They are waking up!

Her song continues on, and says,

“Let Hope grow,

Here I am!

I am Hope!

Let Hope take root and grow!

Let it raise you from your death.

Let it sink into your skin,

Let its warmth absorb into your frozen, hollow soul.

Let a single ray of hope fall into your heart.

Never let it leave you.

Hold fast.

It’s far too precious.

Let it linger on,

let it anchor you down.

Just hold onto me tightly!”

She sings over the slain.

“And remember that Hope always wins the battle.

Hope always wins.”

Hope brings the heart back to life.

It breathes life , as hearts start beating once more!

Her song is calling,

calling you back to life.

“Awake, and live!

Be alive!

Hope has won!

The battle is over, Hope has WON!

WAKE UP!”

If a Child Can Do It, So Can You!

How often do we dismiss kids? They’re always too little and too inexperienced to be taken seriously. We consider them  too young to understand anything of great importance. Yet with most children there is more than meets the eye. They really are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. My four year old nephew  blows my mind with how alert and smart he is.  Kids actually learn so much faster than adults, but how often do we stop and listen to what they have to say?

I think kids can do some truly amazing things, they just need someone who believes in them enough, and gives them a chance to try. Here are some fascinating young people that will inspire you and prove to you that incredible things can come in very small packages.

Adora Svitak is considered to be the most clever kid in the world. She’s just your everyday little girl genius, giving a lecture to intelligent scholars.

Charlie Simpson raises 100,000 to help Haiti, oh yeah…. he’s only 7 years old.

Laura Dekker breaks a world record by sailing around the world alone.  At only 14 she traveled around the world by herself and made a movie about it.

Greg Grossman started working in kitchens at 8, then at 12 started his own cooking and catering business. No big deal just your average 12 year old getting a jump start on his career.

Brooke, only 11 has already set 4 climbing world records!  …..And I can’t even climb a tree.

So Jake Barnett is a self taught genius studying for his Masters Degree in Quantum Physics. He is now 14 and has the possibility of winning the Nobel prize…. wait What?!?

Akiane Kramarik, my personal fave, is a self taught artist. Her paintings are just stunning. She started at 8 and over the years shes gotten better and better. Go check out her recent artwork!

This 7 year old Elias is an incredibly talented pianist! So adorable, he is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Angelina Jordan’s voice transports me to a different time. Her unique,  jazzy  sound is so mature, compared to her 8 year old body. How is this even possible? Mind blown.

And then theres this little girl in Ukraine, Emily Moskalenko. How does she dance like that?

Just skip to 6:00 mins to see her impressive moves.

Jackie Evancho started at 9 and sings opera like a professional. Her voice sounds like the voice of an angel, and yet she is so humble.

I hope this inspires you to do something you’ve always wanted to do! If these kids can do it… so can you. Just find someone who will believe in you and encourage you.
